About us – Graja Tours – La Palma

Owners of Graja Tours: Lotte and Peter von Lignau

After 12 years together in Germany, we emigrated to La Palma with our three children in 2016. This island, with its strong South American influence and lots of German tourism, offers us a perfect mix of our two cultures.

The warmth of the Palmeros and the spectacular nature inspire us every day. Hiking La Palma and showing its hidden corners to travelers has become our passion. Welcome to La Palma, let yourself be captivated by the “Beautiful Island”.

Our Tours

We usually start most tours with a Palmerian coffee in a small village café. During the hike, we explain the unique nature, tell legends and bring you closer to historical and social contexts. At the same time, we give you enough space to experience and enjoy your surroundings with all your senses.

We offer hikes of all levels of difficulty, from a leisurely family walk with a picnic to a challenging trekking tour for the hard-core. Whether you are an experienced hiker or a newbie, we offer hiking on La Palma for all ages and levels of endurance on our day tours throughout the island.

What is most important to us is that you feel comfortable on the hikes and can fully enjoy the unique moments, impressive landscapes and the hospitality of the Palmeros.

Lotte: German Anthropologist

Backpacking through Indonesia, Thailand and Nepal shaped my childhood and aroused my interest in other cultures early on. After graduating from high school, I traveled through Latin America for a year, where I met my husband in Peru. I studied cultural anthropology in Freiburg. I am enthusiastic about the land and its people and the incredible natural diversity of La Palma. In addition to my hikes all over the island, I also take care of the company’s correspondence, organization and logistics. As a certified hiking guide for the Canary Islands, I am authorized to offer tours in German, Spanish, English and French.

Peter: Landscaper from Peru

At a young age I traveled quite a bit with my family within Peru, but also to Bolivia, Canada, the USA and Mexico and discovered new ways of life. This has sparked a lot of curiosity and interest in me to get to know new places in this beautiful and diverse world and to consider myself a citizen of the world. As a landscape gardener, I specialize in botany and am also interested in the medicinal use of the plants on La Palma.

Romen Santos: Guide from Fuencaliente

Born on La Palma, in Fuencaliente, hiking guide and lover of the island’s trails. Since I was little, I accompanied my father at his work. As a photographer he dedicated his life to producing postcards and hiking guides of La Palma After my studies I traveled the world, learned English and lived in Germany for 7 years where I did a Masters and learned the language. I’ve been back in my country for a few years, working as a tour guide and passionate about showing others the wonders of my island. Growing up on volcanic soil has made volcanoes my passion, it would be my pleasure to accompany you and show you our wonderful island.

Thor Braarvig: Guide from Norway

Born in Norway, I emigrated to Germany at the age of 20. My four children were born there, with whom I went on a trip around the world a few years ago and finally fell in love with La Palma as my new adopted home. In 2019 we moved to the Isla Bonita, where I work as a hiking guide for Graja Tours. I love being out in nature and showing others the beauty of the island. I also write books and make documentaries.

Kirsten Lux: in the office

I have been living on La Palma since 2005 and am an integral part of the Graja Tours team since June 2024. My responsibilities include tour planning and communication with our hiking guests. When I’m not working or looking after my two children, I love to be out and about on Isla Bonita, hiking or being creative. My absolute passion, however, is swimming, especially in the sea.
