Graja Tours La Palma: Hiking with Friends

Discover the new Volcano – now directly to the crater rim

Only on a guided hike like the one offered by Graja Tours is it possible to enter the restricted area of the last volcanic eruption on La Palma in 2021 on the Cumbre Vieja. And now we can get even closer to the still steaming craters. Even those who have already taken the tour will not believe their eyes at this new experience. Accompanied by a trained, local hiking guide with special permission, you will learn first-hand how the Tajogaite volcano has thrown life on the island off track, see the lava flows down to the sea and take a close look at the craters. In two versions, you can decide for yourself whether you would rather do the smaller circular tour to the back of the volcano or the longer one that takes you past the still smoking craters.

Option A: 5km, approx. 2,5 hours, +/-100m (easy to moderate)
Option B: 6,5km, approx. 3,5 hours, +/-200m (moderate)

Volcano tunnel in Las Manchas

With the fresh lava in the background, we first take a look at the lava flow of the San Juan volcano from 1949 from above. Together we then venture inside, armed with helmets and headlamps, and are amazed. Chocolate seems to grow into our mouths in a huge cave. Are those stalactites and cave paintings we see there? Why were rituals to deal with birth trauma held here and what glitters like stars from the ceilings everywhere? We will reveal these and other secrets for you on this exciting cave adventure.

There is always enough time for photos and breaks to enjoy the scenery and no one needs to feel rushed. Now and then the guide brings a little surprise along with him on the tour, on other days we stop off together at a local bar. Of course, our qualified hiking guides will provide plenty of information and will also give you a very personal impression of life on our beautiful Island. Let legends take you back to times gone by, listen to insider information that will amaze you and enjoy the unique nature that will take your breath away.

We did two tours with Lotte and both were fantastic.Well organized, with lots of background information of the scenery, volcanos and life on the island in general. Lotte is a fantastic tour guide and we'd recommend booking her anytime!
Magnificent excursion to Tajogaite. Lotte is a very friendly and professional guide. We recommend it without a doubt.
Very nice route. A 10 for our guide Romen. He knew how to convey how the inhabitants lived those days of volcano activity and at the same time make us enjoy the landscape. Thank you.

Thank you for the great experience at the new volcano. We were very impressed. Even postponing the trip several times (because of the Calima) didn't bother us, as it was the right decision in the end! The organization and execution was very good, the tour guide provided a lot of information extensively and well. We were also very impressed by how the whole island dealt with the volcanic eruption and the great efforts that were and are being made to restore it. We were thrilled! Thank you very much and all the best and much success! Greetings from switzerland.

We did the very interesting volcano tour with a local guide who was passionate about his island and gave very interesting reports about the volcano and its history. The tour was classified as easy to moderately difficult - that's true. For couch potatoes like me, the pace could have been a little slower to take photos every now and then ;-).. overall a great experience with a lasting memory. Clear recommendation!
We have booked the hike to the new volcano on La Palma and even though the weather was awful that morning (gusts of wind, rain, temperature very cool), we didn't want to miss it!The newly created landscape is simply very interesting and exciting, our tour guide Ruven was able to tell us a lot because he comes from the island himself.Booking is uncomplicated, communication is great. Some other tours are also offered. The next time we come to La Palma, we will be happy to contact Graja-Tours again.
