Two tours in one: this excursion is ideal for our cruise guests because they can discover the island’s great diversity and stark contrasts in just one day. Before we head to the west side of the island, we enjoy the view of the ship and the port of Santa Cruz from above. A great photo opportunity. On the west side, we visit various viewpoints around the new Tajogaite volcano. Right from the start, we get very close to the volcanic cone and its lava field and see the full extent of the three-month eruption in 2021. We then travel across the 3km-wide devastation zone on a newly constructed road, crossing 80 meters of lava layers. We also inspect the newly formed lava tongues in the sea before driving back towards El Paso via another lava road.
After a relaxing coffee break, we continue to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. At an elevation of 1300 meters, we take a leisurely stroll along a wide, well-maintained path to a viewpoint. (Those with limited mobility can simply sit on one of the many benches and enjoy the view.) The view over the rugged slopes and the lush nature of one of the largest erosion craters in the world is breathtaking. Pure relaxation for mind and body. Now it’s time to return to the ship. This excursion, with its diverse experiences, will be remembered for a long time.
Two short hikes / Price: €85 including transfer from the port (depending on the ship’s docking times)
