National Park and Volcano

Two tours in one, ideal for cruise guests, with pickup from the port. First we visit the restricted area around the new volcano in La Palma. In a 5km circular route we hike through thick layers of ash and surreal landscape until very close to the new volcanic crater of the Cumbre Vieja. The circular route takes around 2.5 hours and takes place in a group of up to 14 people.

After a coffee break in cozy El Paso, we continue in a small group to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. At an altitude of 1300m we take a leisurely stroll on a wide path to a viewing point. The view over the rugged slopes and the lush nature of one of the largest erosion craters in the world is breathtaking. Pure relaxation for mind and body. This excursion will be remembered for a long time with its diverse impressions.

Spectacular Island Tour

This varied journey gives a panoramic view of the island. We first drive through 5 climate zones over many curves to the highest point of the island. Here we enjoy the breathtaking view of the largest erosion crater in the world and over the neighboring islands of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro. The observatories are also impressive with their presence and we can even take a closer look at the open mirror telescopes MAGIC. We let the scenery sink in with a small picnic. After a toilet stop, the journey continues to the northwest, where we dive into the dense and largely unknown laurel forest of la Zarza. A short walk with a lot to marvel at. The next stop is the El Time viewpoint, from which we get an overview of the entire Aridane Valley and the devastating extent of the volcanic eruption of 2021. Mondays: Crater hike over the clouds

A spectacular winding drive takes us through 5 climate zones up to the roof of the island at over 2000m. A unique hike awaits us on the well-developed high-altitude path, accompanied by incredible views of the Caldera and over the entire island. When the weather is clear, we can see the three neighboring islands of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro, and La Palma’s famous cloud waterfall can also be seen from time to time. The hiking trail winds its way over the various mountain ridges past bizarre world-class observatories, built between indigenous huts and legendary basalt walls. An unforgettable hike that everyone should do at least once.

Tip: In the months of May and June, the mountains are in bloom, a unique experience of color. The gigantic Tajinaste, the La Palma violet and various types of broom that only exist on Tenerife and La Palma bloom here.

Tuesdays: Culinary Coastal Tour

A wonderful hike through the most lush cultural landscape of La Palma and with beautiful views over the coast and the ocean. The area through which the hike takes us used to be called the “granary of La Palma”. Today, grain is no longer grown there, but instead a colorful variety of fruit that practically falls into your lap as you hike and invites you to try it.

Your gaze wanders over the rugged coast. Most of the path is rocky, but well-paved. It goes up and down constantly through several small ravines. The first highlight is the viewpoint at the deep ravine of La Galga. Here we sit down for a cozy picnic (included) and let our eyes wander. Finally, we turn around and make our way past the Devil’s Cave and to the wonderful natural beach of Playa Nogales. Even if swimming is too dangerous due to the extreme undercurrents, we can carefully cool off in the waves near the beach. So don’t forget your bathing suit. The return journey is by taxi.

Wesnesdays: Waterfall of Clouds

Our tour begins above El Paso at the entrance to the Parque Natural de Cumbre Vieja. This circular hike is particularly interesting when the cloud waterfall passes over the Cumbre Vieja. The climb to Llano del Jable goes through the pine forest and is very pleasant to hike on old paths. When the weather is good, we have beautiful views of the cloud waterfall that flows over the Cumbre Nueva (1400m) and admire the Bejenado and the “plain” of Los Llanos de Aridane.

After about an hour we reach a huge field of black volcanic ash. Directly in front of us is the mountain Montana Quemada (Burnt Mountain). The volcano had erupted shortly before the Spanish conquered La Palma and was still smoking when they gave it its name. Now we dive into the mystical and completely unknown laurel forest of El Paso full of lichens, mosses, mushrooms and archways made of tree heather. We appear like dwarves in the jungle on the now steady descent.

Thursdays: Sacred Springs, Mushrooms, Tobacco and Chestnuts

This tour is a wonderful hike across meadows and pastures with beautiful views of the east side of La Palma. There is a lot to see along the way. We hike through five gorges and past six holy springs that are decorated with crosses and invite you to linger. In addition to the lush Canary laurel forest, chestnuts – introduced by seafarers – have also spread in this area. In the rainy season we find many mushrooms here, from October to January La Palma is a mushroom paradise.

The hike does not present any particular difficulties, but it is not just a stroll either. A steep ascent of 350 m awaits us right at the beginning, but it is made entertaining by nice stories and explanations about flora and fauna. After 1.5 hours we come to a spring and a resting place in the middle of the laurel forest, a wildly romantic place where you can also have a barbecue.

Towards the end of the tour we come through Palmerian agricultural landscape and finally return to a typical Palmerian bar. There is coffee or beer here and if you want you can also get a little something to eat there.

A museum in San Pedro is dedicated to tobacco cultivation, which was a good source of income until the late 1990s (visit optional).

Fridays: Fairytail Forest

On this tour we will take you to one of the largest laurel forests in the world. The hike goes through one of the most impressive jungle gorges in La Palma with giant ferns, thick moss and gigantic laurel trees. This type of forest dates back to the time of the dinosaurs and can only be found on a few islands today. We take a break at a lookout point and enjoy the view of the lush greenery, the coast and the sea. A wonderful circular route that can be a bit slippery in places.

Afterwards we drive to the picturesque village of San Andrés, from where we walk along a wonderful coastal path to the pretty natural swimming pools of Charco Azul. A refreshing swim in the crystal clear water concludes our tour. If you want, you can visit one of the last original rum factories in the Canaries (with shopping opportunities).
